I feel like, I was dating somebody where forever wasn’t a matter of science, it was simply a conversation: do you want to be forever like this or not? And that was inherently cool because I’ve always been anxious and worrisome. Sleeping with the TV on, minutely afraid of the dark’s influence on my mind. He changed all of that for me. I remember saying to him in Malibu at one point, “You wanna know something? Never in my entire life have I been so unafraid of the future. It’s almost as if I don’t really remember we have a future at all.” And, I don’t know, if I had to regret something—I don’t think I ever truly impressed upon him that he did THAT. He gave me the safety of infinity. For a stretch of time. I remember us like that. I don’t feel the residue of abandonment. I just remember being lovers and thinking, it’s all relative, but his innocuous blue eyes, his somewhat dissonant laugh, his messy morning hair, those things were fundamental to Forever.
